A University-owned real estate agency threatened to terminate Carney's Pub's lease if the bar proceeded with a showing of "Vixxen," an erotic dance act, Wednesday night. "Vixxen," which is billed as "the hottest and most erotic female show in the U.S.A" and "winners of the Platinum G-String Awards," was scheduled to begin at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday. On the bar that night was a poster advertising the show. Someone had written "SHOW IS CANCELLED UNIVERSITY THREATENED TO REVOKE LEASE. *OUR APOLOGIES" on the sign. Carney's owner, Gus Pelagatti, who reportedly spoke to the University official could not be reached for comment. According to University City Associates President Christopher Mason, several University employees informed the University-owned real estate agency about the intended performance after seeing advertisements on campus. UC Associates then informed Carney's that its lease would be terminated if Carney's proceeded with the show, Mason said. Carney's is part of the Blue Corner Shops, which are owned by the University and leased out by University City Associates, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the University. Carney's leasing agreement contains a clause that states that uses of the property must be consistent with the "character and dignity" of the building, Mason said. He added that "Vixxen" is not consistent with that stance. "They didn't even get our permission, [although] we would have said no, anyway," he said. And at least one Carney's patron was not disappointed by the show's cancellation. "If they want sleaze, they can go to Wizzard's," area resident Jerry Fadgen said.
