The book, which was made into a movie in 1989, tells the story of a young girl's attempt to understand the Vietnam war. Mason's other works, which include several collections of short stories, focus on life in rural Kentucky. The reading, which is sponsored by PEN at Penn, will take place at 4 p.m. in Stiteler Hall, Room B6. -- Gayle Meyers
