First-year PennDesign students Eboni Hawkins and Sean Dajour Smith were named the first cohort of scholars.

The four new classes aim to equip students with the tools to have meaningful and respectful discussions on complex political issues, the program’s faculty director Michael Carpini said.

'We wanted to showcase the diversity of the black community and show that blackness is not a monolith,' Black Student League President and College senior Christine Olagun-Samuel said. 

"Body Reclamation Week" featured documentary screenings, workshops, and discussions on bodily autonomy, fatphobia, ableism, and trauma. 

Williams, who is also the co-founder of clothing brand Young Moguls, self-published “Breaking the System: Unlocking Your Limitless Potential” this summer. 

History and law professor Sarah Barringer Gordon, philosophy and education professor Karen Detlefsen, and the director of the Penn's Rare Book and Manuscript Library David McKnight all received grants to fund collaborative research projects. 

During the event, she traced the history of the sanctuary policy and spoke about the current status for border migration.

Professor George Pappas is one of 25 people awarded the fellowship for the 2017 to 2020 period.

The syllabus includes anime and manga from a range of genres, including the popular anime film "Your Name" and "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind."
