Crime in the Penn Patrol zone decreased 6 percent in March compared to March last year, but the year-to-date crime total rose 1 percent from 2006 to 2007, Division of Public Safety officials said. Despite the slight overall increase in crime in 2007, Vice President for Public Safety Maureen Rush said she was pleased with decreases in robberies, burglaries and aggravated assaults - crimes that she said are of particular concern to DPS because they directly endanger victims.

Spring Fling directors announced yesterday that just over 500 of the 2,000 available guest passes have been sold, about the same number that had been sold at this time last year. Engineering junior and Spring Fling co-director Lindsay Motlin said she does not expect a spike in guest pass sales due to the April 13 Ben Folds/Third Eye Blind concert.

Tyler Morris shrugs his shoulders at Philadelphia's degree of bike-friendliness. "It's average," said Morris, a College junior and a daily bike rider. "They make an effort to accomodate bikers." But if Alex Doty, executive director of the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, has his way, bicycling in Philadelphia will never again be just an "average" experience.
