The group called for an immediate “moratorium” on investments in coal, and demanded a meeting with the whole school to talk about fossil fuel divestment more broadly, the Harvard Crimson reported.

Explanations for the mistakes can be ambiguous. According to Time, the universities cite reasons such as “technological glitch” in their “automated mail-merge process,” “human error” and “clerical error.”

The study found the assumption that students “will be better off financially if they graduate from ... an elite college” to still be true, but “far truer for men,” The Atlantic reported. 

Dartmouth College announced plans to compensate local homeowners in an area where the school used to dump lab waste, after residents filed complaints that carcinogens had leaked into the surrounding groundwater.

Penn's own private-prison divestment campaign, Penn Divest from Displacement (PDD) wrote a 2015 editorial in The Daily Pennsylvanian, calling for the University to divest from two prison companies that the group charged with displacing minorities and other oppressed populations.

This program is not the first of its kind, and similar programs have been successful at universities like Brown, Cornell and Columbia.

Local residents are in a battle with Dartmouth University about the carcasses of lab mice and other experimental materials that were disposed of in the 1960s and 1970s. The property used to be a dumping ground for waste from experiments that traced how radioactive compounds travelled through life systems.
