This was no ordinary women's tennis match. About 100 cheering fans were holding or wearing free T-shirts and eating pizza as Penn battled Princeton Saturday afternoon at Lott Courts. Michael Dowd's team went out of its way to set up and market this event, publicizing it on Locust Walk, and spending mostly its own money to make it happen.

College applicants have rated Penn No. 10 in a survey of "dream schools" by the Princeton Review. But their parents felt differently, with Penn failing to crack the top 10 at all. It's like the limbo for Ivy League admissions rates - they just keep going lower and lower. Five other Ivy League schools joined Penn in admitting the lowest rates of applicants yet, but experts say Penn has the best chance to keep the momentum going. Harvard, Princeton, Dartmouth, Brown and Columbia universities all joined Penn by accepting record-low percentages of applicants.

"There are horses for courses and courses for horses." This time, the course was the Raspberry Falls Golf and Hunt Club in Leesburg, Va.

Despite a 9-1 home record and an Ivy Championship, a victory over Towson eluded the Penn gymnastics team in four tries this season. With one last chance to defeat the Tigers at this weekend's ECAC Championships, the Quakers (191.325) placed second only to Towson (193.
