"Class In Session" Lecture with 9th Wonder

Last night, members of the Philadelphia and Penn community learned about hip-hop from one of the masters of the trade.The Center for Africana Studies Undergraduate Advisory Board brought Grammy Award-winning producer, artist and scholar Patrick Douthit — better known as 9th Wonder — to speak at the Annenberg School about the history of contemporary hip-hop music and its influence on his life.


There is little evidence that disparity in spending has a big impact on outcomes. Research into the effect has found a modest positive link between disparity in spending and vote outcome. However, one of the confounding problems is that popular and well-organized candidates are probably more likely to win.

Last night, J Street U Penn — a pro-Israel and pro-peace student group at Penn — hosted Daniel Seidemann, an Israeli attorney and legal expert on east Jerusalem policy. For his talk, Seidemann delved into his professional experience and lent some rational insight on the possibility of a two-state solution between Israelis and Palestinians.

It is unequivocal that Penn’s administration should be more diverse. However, less than two years ago, Penn launched its Faculty Diversity Action Plan, geared at increasing the diversity of Penn’s faculty.

Men basketball lose to Lafayette

The Penn men’s basketball team begins its second go-round through the Ivy League this weekend, traveling to New York to take on Cornell and Columbia with the opportunity to atone for previous mistakes.

The No. 23 Quakers (8-3, 3-1 Ivy) will compete Saturday against Princeton and Sunday against Drexel before moving on to postseason play. The team will celebrate Senior Day versus Princeton.






Faith and Proof Talk

For many, trying to find a balance between faith and proof can become a difficult tightrope act.In conjunction with the University’s “Year of Proof,” Penn Secular Society brought Carnegie Mellon University philosophy professor Andy Norman to speak Wednesday afternoon in a lecture titled “Faith, Proof and Everything in Between.”

The Towne building — located in the Engineering Quad — was evacuated at approximately 3:30 p.m. Thursday due to an accidental chemical spill.The spill, which occurred in a lab on the building’s first floor, was cleaned-up by Penn’s Emergency Health and Radiation Safety, according to the Division of Public Safety.
