Members of the Penn chapter of American Association of University Professors gathered in front of College Hall to protest for academic freedom. Over 100 Penn affiliates gathered Monday afternoon, emphasizing the importance of protecting the freedom of discourse, teaching, research, and publication. The Daily Pennsylvanian staffers covered the event, capturing the speakers as they criticized outside influences and private interests on the University and chanted “Let us teach.” Read more here.

Around 70 students and community members joined a rally on Penn's campus in support of resident advisors and graduate assistants’ efforts to unionize. The rally comes after the University argued that RAs and GAs are “not employees” in response to their recent filing for official union recognition. Penn instead classified the group as student leaders with an “educational relationship” to Penn since they are not on the payroll. The rally, which was organized by United RAs at Penn, was held on Friday and featured guest speakers such as Philadelphia mayoral candidate and 1993 College graduate Helen Gym. Penn announced regular decision admission results for the Class of 2027 after receiving a record number of applications. More than 59,000 students applied to Penn this cycle, the largest first-year applicant pool in Penn's history, and over 4,500 more applications than the Class of 2026 and over 3,000 more than the Class of 2025. UPenn Class of 2027 early decision results have been released! According to the announcement, over 8,000 students applied to Penn through the Early Decision Program this year — an increase from last year’s 7,795 applicants and the largest early decision applicant pool in its history. Penn did not disclose the acceptance rate, continuing its decision to withhold detailed admissions results. Last year, 15.6% of early decision applicants were admitted to the Class of 2026, but the University opted not to release the acceptance rate for regular decision applicants. Anyone who has walked by College Green in the past two weeks has likely noticed Fossil Free Penn’s colorful tents and banners strung up on trees. Between classes, students involved with FFP said that they have spent upwards of 12 hours at the encampment each day, with many sleeping in tents during the night.
