Freshman quarterback Miles Teodecki has earned Ivy League Co-Rookie of the Week, Penn Student-Athlete of the Week, and Football Championship Subdivision Freshman of the Week honors after an impressive collegiate debut this past Saturday.
Teodecki wasted no time making an impact in his first game for Penn football (1-0). He ended his first collegiate game with 197 passing yards, 18-for-34 in completions, 87 rushing yards, and three total touchdowns. At the helm, he led the Red and Blue to a 20-7 victory against Bucknell (1-3, 0-2 Patriot), setting off a winning start for Penn.
“Obviously, Miles was really excited to get his first start,” coach Rick Santos said.
Less than a week before the season kicked off, Teodecki was announced as the game one quarterback for Penn football, replacing junior starting quarterback Karson Siqueiros-Lasky.
“You know, he made some freshman mistakes out there, for sure. There’s a handful of plays that he’d want back, and we want back as an offense,” Santos said. “But, for the most part, I think [for] his first collegiate start to have that poise and charisma — he was really elite with his legs. We’ll clean up some things mechanically in the passing game, but very, very encouraged with how he played.”
According to Stats Perform, Teodecki also earned himself a FCS National Freshman of the Week recognition, an honor given to the top freshman player in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision.
“All credit to my guys for allowing me to be put in that spot. Without the other 10 guys on the field with me, I can’t do any of those things. Just all credit to the team, all credit to the guys around me,” Teodecki said.
