College sophomore Gilles Gouraige said his friend was crossing Spruce Street when she was hit by a car.

A woman was hit by a car on Spruce Street between 40th and 41st streets late Wednesday night. 

Police announced to bystanders at the scene that the woman was taken to the Penn Presbyterian Hospital. Penn Police and the Penn Medical Emergency Response Team responded to the scene. 

College sophomore Gilles Gouraige said his friend was crossing Spruce Street when she was hit by a car. 

“I ran over to her [and] flipped over her body to make sure she was responsive and talkative. She was. We called the authorities to get here," Gouraige said.

The Division of Public Safety did not respond to an immediate request for comment.
