President Gutmann supports Obama's community college plan

President Barack Obama's free community college proposal has the support of Penn President Amy Gutmann.

Obama is expected to propose a plan to provide free community college for millions of students in his Tuesday 'State of the Union.' Gutmann appeared on CNBC's "On the Money," talking about the positives of increased opportunities for higher education.

Even though Penn's price of tuition continues to rise, the University has a all-grant, no-loan financial aid policy. However, many other colleges can't afford the financial aid program that Penn has as those schools don't have the same endowment.

Gutmann said on the program that making college more accessible is "absolutely critical to the American dream of opportunity," touting the importance of higher education. Gutmann spoke from her own experience, as she went to Radcliffe College on a full need-based scholarship.
