Columbia released a report quantifying on-campus sexual assault and other gender-based misconduct Tuesday afternoon. The data addresses gender-based misconduct cases occurring from July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014 and categorizes them by the complainant's affiliation with the university, the type of sexual misconduct and the resolution.
The report is largely the result of previous demands from student activists in August of this year. However, lacking from the report is one of activists' primary concerns — data disclosing the sanctions used in punishing those found culpable. According to multiple areas of university administration that address sexual assault issues, withholding sanction data is necessary in order to protect student privacy.
