Both the heavyweight and lightweight crews traveled to Derby, Conn., this weekend to compete for the Blackwell and Dodge Cups, respectively, against Columbia and Yale.
The No. 16 Penn heavyweights upset No. 11 Columbia ,but fell 13 seconds behind No. 10 Yale. The Quakers finished in 6:35.9 facing strong winds and rain. The results were the same for the second Varsity Eights, who finished in 7:16.1, 31.1 seconds behind the Bulldogs.
The lightweights weren’t able to pull off any upsets in the Dodge Cup, placing third behind first place Yale and Columbia. Penn finished in 6:38.5, nearly 17 seconds behind the Bulldogs, competing on their home waters.
