What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. But some students just want to stay in the Radian.
Residents of the Radian Apartments who renew their leases by Dec. 15 stand to win a trip to Las Vegas, but the trip seems to be low on residents’ list of reasons to renew.
One renewing resident will be randomly selected to receive a two-night trip for two to Las Vegas, including airfare and $500 in spending money.
The apartment complex, at 3925 Walnut St., is also offering residents who renew their leases by Dec. 15 special rates on their contracts.
“Although I think it would be awesome to win, it definitely didn’t sway my decision to renew my lease,” Radian resident and College sophomore Meredith Shea said. She added that while she had looked into other off-campus options, she chose the Radian for its “appealing” security and location.
Rachel Kihn, vice president of marketing at the Radian’s parent company, Inland American Communities Group, wrote in an e-mail that “the Radian sees lease renewal rates well above the national industry average, with 100% of the community being currently leased.” The company selects grand prizes that have a “wide appeal, and this year’s trip giveaway is no exception,” she wrote.
Emily Lin, a College senior who lives in the Radian, said while the thought of winning a trip is exciting, it would be better to be able to choose her own destination. She said a trip to Las Vegas is “geared toward people who are older,” and may not be much of a motivation for those under 21.
Lin said the incentives are not convincing, as her decision to renew her lease “depends on what I do next year” in terms of education and work.
While she finds the apartments “very convenient and safe,” the only negative of leasing in the Radian is the expense. Though the Radian is offering residents special rates for early renewal, she said the difference in cost would not be enough to change her opinion.
“If you’re looking for cheaper rent, the Radian is not the place to be,” she said.
School of Engineering and Applied Science sophomore Nicole Teow, also a Radian tenant, said she heard about the offers but will not be influenced by them when choosing whether to renew her lease. “Ultimately, I will choose to live with my friends at a place that offers the most convenience,” she said.
