Welcome, and welcome back. Ready or not, it’s the start of another school year.
This year promises to be full of changes. Campus will see a new sorority in the upcoming months, as well as new retail and restaurants. Come January, Pennsylvania will have a new Governor and U.S. Senator. And another year also means new opportunities and challenges for new and returning students.
To the freshmen: For this year (and this year only), you’re the best and brightest class ever. Embrace your new roles as students at a prestigious research university in the middle of a vibrant city. If you’re nervous about starting college, don’t worry — you’re not alone, and you’ll find your place. And if you’re in need of some advice, look no further than the two columns from recent graduates on this page.
To the upperclassmen: Just because you’re no longer the new kids in town doesn’t mean you can’t try new things. There’s still time to take unusual classes, join clubs, participate in campus traditions and see all the tourist attractions in Philadelphia. Also, be nice to the freshmen. Remember, you were once in their unsettled shoes.
Wherever you are on your college trajectory, enjoy the year and live in the moment. Along the way, The Daily Pennsylvanian will be your resource to stay informed.
