Penn Dems’ efforts to clarify health care for students should be taken advantage of by students

This week, Penn Democrats and other student groups will celebrate Health Care Week, intended to increase awareness among Penn students about the healthcare crisis and help galvanize action to pass solid healthcare reform in Washington.

The events run the gamut, from a debate with College Republicans, moderated by Penn Leads the Vote, to a Health Care Halloween party Thursday night to end the week with a bang.

Health care — and the current reform effort — is a monolithic issue and its importance can’t be overstated. But between the issues’ complexity and the confusing political machinations at work, college students have become understandably confused. Because most college students are insured and aren’t confronting a personal health crisis, it’s been easy for apathy to set in. The Penn Dems’ efforts to bring clarity to these entangled issues is much appreciated, and we hope that many students will attend a panel or debate to learn more about the nuances of the current reform efforts.

With each week, it’s looking more and more likely that some form of reform will pass through Washington this year. Learn what’s happening and how it’s affecting you.
