Mercyhurst Preparatory School, in Erie, Pa., has set up a fund in memory of College sophomore Anne Ryan, who died on Sept. 9 from meningitis.
The fund, named the Anne Ryan Mission Fund, will help pay for religious community-service trips to Baltimore, Md.
Each year, a group of Mercyhurst students spend a week of summer break with the school's Chaplain volunteering at a homeless shelter. Ryan went on one when she was a student there.
Mercyhurst Principal Margaret Aste said the fund came from a suggestion from Ryan's mother shortly after her daughter's death.
So far, Aste said, over $5,000 has been contributed to the fund, which also honors another Mercyhurst student who recently died of a brain tumor.
Donations can be made to the Anne Ryan Mission Fund, c/o Mercyhurst Preparatory School, 538 East Grandview Blvd., Erie, Pa., 16504.
