NEWS BRIEF: Streim leaves GSE post for Columbia position

Nancy Streim, associate dean for educational practice at the Graduate School of Education, will be leaving Penn on June 30 to join Columbia University as associate vice president at its Teachers College and special adviser to the Columbia provost.

Streim came to Penn in 1988 and has worked closely with the public schools in Phladelphia. Improving education in public schools has been one of her main research interests.

One of her many accomplishments, Streim helped develop the Penn-Alexander School, a charter school which serves approximately 500 students in the University City area and is subsidized by Penn to keep student-teacher ratios low and educational standards high. Additionally, she currently directs the Penn Partnership Schools network.

At Columbia, Streim will help coordinate the Teacher College's activities with New York City public schools and help build partnerships similar to those that she instituted between Penn and surrounding Philadelphia public schools.
