News Brief: Santana officially confirmed to perform

Rap artist Juelz Santana has signed a contract and will officially headline Spectrum's annual spring concert, Penn officials and representatives for Santana confirmed yesterday.

The concert will be held April 20 at the Theater of the Living Arts, the same venue as last year's concert.

Though Spectrum co-chairman Ahmed Whitt said yesterday that details had not been finalized, both Lynn Hobson, Santana's publicist, and Associate Director of Student Life Lee Kramer said a contract had been signed two weeks ago.

Santana had posted on his MySpace.com Web site earlier this week that he would be performing at Penn.

"Everything has been signed on their behalf and on our behalf," Kramer said.

The concert - originally held in conjunction with the Penn Relays - was pushed ahead to the weekend after Spring Fling in 2005 due to security concerns.

Spectrum - a division of the SPEC that which focuses minority interests - typically tries to bring hip-hop and soul artists, Whitt said.

Past performers include Kanye West , Common and Jay-Z.

Opening acts and ticket prices for this year's concert have not yet been confirmed, Whitt said.

Though ticket prices have not currently been set, past SPEC-TRUM concerts have cost between $10-$15.
