Sports brief: Wrestling team to face challenging schedule

Coming off a 12th-place finish at Nationals last year with a school-record 51 points at the tournament, the wrestling team finds itself faced with a challenging slate of matches lined up for this season.

The Athletic Department released the schedule for the upcoming season, and on it the Quakers will find a mix of familiar foes and notable newcomers.

In addition to the usual trio of challenges presented by Cornell, Lehigh and Hofstra, several of the top finishers at NCAAs have been inserted into Penn's schedule.

Last year, the Quakers competed in the Virginia Duals while the top programs in the country were invited to the more prestigious National Duals on Jan. 13-14. This year, the Penn wrestlers got the nod for the main event, and with it the chance to square off against the nation's best programs. Last season's top five finishers - Oklahoma St., Minnesota, Oklahoma, Iowa and, once again, Cornell - will all attend the Northern Iowa tournament.
