Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred early Friday morning at the Wawa convenience store located at 3744 Spruce St.
A man entered the store at about 12:45 a.m. and approached the cashier.
Police say he displayed a handgun and demanded that the cashier "put the money in the bag."
The cashier complied immediately.
Police said that the man exited the store with an undetermined amount of cash and proceeded to run west on Spruce Street.
He reportedly got into a dark or black sport-utility vehicle -- possibly a Jeep Cherokee -- that was parked on the 3800 block of Spruce Street.
Detectives believe that the gunman entered the passenger side of the SUV. Another man, already in the vehicle, drove it away.
To confirm this scenario as well as many other details of the case, police are reviewing video footage from several cameras located both inside and outside the Wawa store.
It is unknown how many customers were inside the store at the time of the robbery. There were at least two employees at the scene.
The suspect is described as a black male in his 30s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 180 pounds, with a light complexion. He reportedly wore a white hat, a white long-sleeve T-shirt and black pants.
No one was injured in the incident.
In a separate incident, police made an arrest early Sunday morning after another local robbery. This incident occurred at the Fresh Grocer at 4001 Walnut St. It did not involve a weapon.
At about 12:45 a.m., police say Kevin Cooper, 46, of the 5000 block of Upland Street allegedly attempted to leave the store without paying for his merchandise. In the process, he pushed a store security guard out of his way.
Store employees called police as the man fled west on Walnut Street.
University Police officers converged on the area and soon stopped near the intersection of 41st and Sansom streets.
He was reportedly in possession of around $33 worth of toiletry items when he was caught.
Police also discovered that the Philadelphia Police Department's Southwest Detective Division had an outstanding warrant for the suspect in connection with another robbery that occurred outside of University City.
Cooper was arrested and taken to Southwest Detectives for processing.
The Fresh Grocer security guard who was pushed was not injured.
