No spills, unsafe air reported at biochem lab

John Morgan Building evacuated after worker felt ill

A biochemical lab in the John Morgan Building was evacuated yesterday after a researcher reported feeling nauseous.

Penn officials are saying that there are no reports of any chemical spills, and emergency personnel have deemed the air in the building to be clean. They say that the lab worker simply became ill and the area was evacuated as a precaution.

Rescue crews were called to the building, located behind the Quadrangle at 3620 Hamilton Walk, just after 11 a.m. They had been told that a "bio-hazard condition" had been created by an unsafe mixture of chemicals.

Emergency personnel declared the situation under control at 12:26 p.m.
