Robbers punch student Sunday at 41st and Locust

A male student was robbed at around 11 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of 41st and Locust streets.

Police have not made any arrests connected with the case.

The student, 21, reported that he was walking north on 41st Street when he saw two men approaching him from the other direction.

Allegedly, the older of the two men walked directly up to the student and punched him.

When the student asked what was he was doing, the man demanded that his money.

According to police reports, the student removed his wallet and was fumbling with it when the older male took it.

It contained $12 in cash as well as several personal identification cards.

After taking the wallet, the robbers fled south on 41st Street.

A witness who was inside a home on the block called police immediately after she saw the incident through her window.

Penn Police Chief Mark Dorsey said that an Allied Security guard and a Penn Police officer both arrived at the scene within two minutes. However, police were unable to locate the robbers.

The older attacker is described as a black male 18 to 19 years old and between 5-foot-11 and 6 feet tall. He has a thin build and a dark complexion. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a black baseball cap with three silver letters.

According to police, the letters on the hat may have been either "DOC" or "TOP."

The other is described as a black male 14 to 15 years old and between 5-4 and 5-5. He has a medium build, and was wearing a peanut-butter colored sweatshirt.

Police said they are investigating to see if this robbery is linked to any of the nearly half dozen others that have recently occurred in the vicinity of campus.

Dorsey said police have an arrest warrant for an individual who they believe was involved with at least one of these robberies.

He added that there are several similarities -- including location -- between this incident and several of the others that have occurred.
