A female student reported early Friday morning that she was sexually assaulted near 40th and Pine streets by a college-age male. According to a campus-wide email sent by Vice President for Public Safety Maureen Rush, and Vice Provost for University Life Valarie Swain-Cade McCoullum, the student was treated at the emergency room of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania then released. Penn police have added extra patrols throughout the area, however they will not conduct the primary investigation. The Philadelphia Police Special Victims Unit has jurisdiction over sexual assault crimes will be investigating the case.
