Holiday celebrations off the beaten track

If orchestras, ballets, and other traditional festivities fail to whet your holiday appetite, Philadelphia still has a lot offer for those clamoring for something a bit more off the beaten path.

Drop by the Philadelphia Doll Museum for a holiday ensemble of more than 300 festive dolls and cheerful angels.

Roll out the red carpet for the puppet stars of "Santa Claus Conquers the Fantoccini" -- a vaudeville-esque variety show -- at the Mum Puppet theatre.

Pay a visit to the home of Betsy Ross -- legendary maker of the first American flag -- where you can celebrate the holidays Colonial style.

History buffs can observe at the 52nd annual reenactment of Gen. George Washington leading his troops across the Delaware on December 25, 1776, and turning the course of the American Revolution toward victory.

And don't miss the Franklin Institute's Holiday Model Train Show as miniature locomotives wind their way through models of Philadelphia neighborhoods.
