News Brief: Gibson selected to head University budget work

Bonnie Gibson, a Penn administrator who has been serving as acting executive director for the Office of Budget and Management Analysis since January, has been selected to serve as the permanent vice president for budget and management analysis.

Gibson is replacing Michael Masch, who left in 2003 to work for Gov. Ed Rendell. She will continue to work on "internal resource allocation at the University," according to Executive Vice President Craig Carnaroli.

"She brings multiple perspectives to the table and an understanding of how we work operationally," Carnaroli said, citing Gibson's 17 years of experience at Penn.

With the official title now preceding her name, Gibson will be able to focus on long-term goals.

She will be concentrating on "creating the resources to support [University President Amy Gutmann] and the implementation of the Penn compact," Carnaroli said, referring Gutmann's three-prong plan.

Expressing his confidence in Gibson's leadership abilities, Carnaroli said he expects Gibson to lend a personal twist to the position.

"I think Bonnie will put her own mark on it," he said.
