Sports Brief: Dartmouth athletes arrested

Steroid scandal plagues Dartmouth football

Two members of the Dartmouth College football team were indicted last week on charges of possessing performance enhancing steroids and other illegal substances.

New Hampshire police searched the residence of Steven DeMarco and Sheanon Summers and found illegal narcotics, including cocaine, marijuana, oxycodone, and anabolic steroids.

DeMarco was charged with four counts of possession of illegal substances. All the charges are felonies except for the one involving marijuana, which is a misdemeanor.

Summers, his housemate and tight end on the team, was charged with two counts of possession, one for marijuana and one for anabolic steroids.

DeMarco and Summers were arrested after the local police detained Eric Testan, another Dartmouth student, on cocaine charges, and he told police officers that he had bought the drug from DeMarco, said Nicholas Giaccone, the police chief in Hanover, N.H.

Testan was initially caught in possession of cocaine when he was involved in a car accident on April 22.

All three men will be arraigned on July 20, and face up to seven years in prison if convicted.
