News Briefs: Women's Center opens on Walk

"We had 11 years of stuff to move, but we never closed," Women's Center Associate Director Gloria Gay said. "Now I hope everyone on campus will come and enjoy the building." A grand opening for the center will be held October 3 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Primarily consisting of a tour of the facilities, the open house will allow the University community to meet the center's staff. The reception will also include a presentation entitled "Voices of Her Story," detailing the Women's Center's past. As its first major event, the center will hold a panel discussion with three women's issues experts on October 4 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Annenberg School Theatre. The Women's Center is filling the west half of the first floor and offices on the second floor. The space will include a resource lounge, a conference room, offices and other areas for counseling and support groups. The east side of the first floor will include a meeting room that any student, faculty or administrative group can reserve. – Jaclyn LaPlaca
