Philadelphia Mayor Ed Rendell said "everything is coming up roses" for the University of the Arts, which officially added the Philadelphia Arts Bank yesterday to the six other theatres it owns in the city. "The arts remain an important part of civilization, the soul, and humanity," said Avenue of the Arts Chairman Bernard Watson. "It is time that we all realize that appreciation of the arts is something that should be extended to all of our citizens." On Thursday, the Arts Bank will hold an opening celebration, featuring a performance by actor James Earl Jones and chamber music by the Philadelphia Orchestra. Tickets for the show are $50 per person. All remaining performances at the Arts Bank will be free this week. – Christopher Pryor
