Graduate degrees provide the biggest income boosts for those that majored in fields such as political science, history and engineering, according to the Georgetown Center on Education and the Workforce.
Students with graduate degrees in computer science see an average $30,000 increase in their incomes. History majors see $26,000.
Graduate degrees are not the only ways to increase income, however. Spending a few years in the workforce — at least three — without ever obtaining a graduate degree can also lead to significant gains in income. Those that hold only undergraduate degrees in political science and government but have spent a substantial amount of time working, for example, see an income boost of $36,000.
