The living room of the Kelly Writers House was packed yesterday with Penn students and Philadelphia residents alike to hear a reading by the poet Jerome Rothenberg. Rothenberg, the author of over 70 books of poetry, is the last of three Kelly Writers House Fellows to visit Penn's campus this spring.

Professor Dan Bogen loves children's toys - designing them, that is. Bogen, an associate professor of Bioengineering since 1982, started a program called PennToys as a project for his Bioengineering Senior Design students. For more than 14 years, students involved with PennToys have designed devices so medical researches and therapists can use them to help diagnose and treat disabled children.

The Trustees' Council of Penn Women presented their highest tribute, the TCPW Beacon Award, to Justice Sandra Day O'Connor yesterday in a presentation for alumni and students in Huntsman Hall Auditorium. O'Connor, who served as the first female member of the United States Supreme Court from 1981 to 2005, is the ninth recipient of the TCPW Beacon Award.

You jolt awake at 10:35 a.m., late for your morning class. You were up until five the night before, finishing up a paper, and you run out the door with your teeth half-brushed. The last time Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-Pa.) was in Houston Hall, he was a work-study student running the arcade next to Houston market. Yesterday, he returned to Penn's student union to give a speech honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. sponsored by the School of Nursing and the Office of Diversity and Cultural Affairs.
