Penn men's and women's basketball took to the court on Saturday for their Red and Blue scrimmages, giving fans their first look at newcomers and the development of returning players.

For Penn men’s soccer, it is always one game at a time. After drawing Yale soccer on Saturday night, the Red and Blue are looking forward to playing their final nonconference match of the year when West Virginia travels to Rhodes Field on Tuesday night.

Despite making some waves at the Princeton Chase, Penn rowing has still identified some room for improvement as it looks forward to winter training.

Unfortunately for Penn, lighting occasionally strikes twice. On Friday beneath the lights of Jadwin Arena, the Quakers suffered another tough loss to Princeton in a four set grudge match.

Unfortunately for Penn men’s soccer, the team ended up on the short end of the straw against Yale, fighting to a 1-1 draw against one of the weakest teams in the country.

And so it begins. Penn basketball gave the Quaker faithful its first glimpse of the 2014-15 program on Saturday in its Red and Blue scrimmage.

While it may not have been the on-field performance the team was looking for, Penn sprint football had a night to remember as it honored its senior players in their final home game.

For the Penn women’s soccer, this season has been filled with ups and downs. And Saturday’s game at Yale proved to be no different.

In a nail-biter that featured some fancy passing, solid shooting and even a couple dunks, the Red Team took down the Blue Team in the 2014 Men's Hoops Alumni Game, notching a 31-30 victory.

Yale accentuated the Quakers’ flaws throughout the game, letting a national TV audience see what has been plaguing the Red and Blue all year.

Entering Saturday’s game against Yale, Penn football knew it couldn’t try to tackle running back Tyler Varga one-on-one or allow quarterback Morgan Roberts to make big plays if it wanted to pull off an upset.The Red and Blue couldn’t do either of those things, and a familiar result ensued.

This weekend, we got our first taste of Penn women’s basketball as the team took the court for their Red and Blue scrimmage. While it’s always tough to take too much away from a scrimmage, here are some of our first insights into the Quakers’ upcoming season.

Yale scored early and often, carrying a 29-14 lead into halftime against the Red and Blue. The Bulldogs’ attack was led by senior running back Tyler Varga and junior quarterback Morgan Roberts, who combined for Yale’s four touchdowns.

The recent rise of play within the Ivy League has been a swift one. With schools scrambling to get the one or two pieces to complete their Ivy League title puzzles, competition for recruits has never been so high.

After a set of mixed results at last week’s Head of the Charles regatta, Penn rowing is hoping to make a splash at this weekend’s Princeton Chase before heading into the long, cold winter.

Penn basketball fans, it is time to commence freaking out: the Quakers are going to finish seventh in the Ivy League.Oh wait, that’s just the Ivy League Preseason Media Poll, so you might want to hold your horses.

The Red and Blue (3-2) are coming off of a rough 28-21 loss to Post last weekend that saw senior captain and running back Mike Beamish go down with an injury.
