An Instagram post from the pro-Palestinian group Penn Students Against the Occupation of Palestine showed video footage of an unidentifiable individual splattering red paint on the statue.

The interim Penn president declined to go into detail on several of the controversies that have placed Penn under political and legal scrutiny.

While the decision to remove the concentrations does not impact already-declared students, prospective students are no longer able to declare a concentration. 

Penn President Larry Jameson and Wharton Dean Erika James announced McDonnell's appointment in a June 4, 2024 press release.

The initiative was created in collaboration with the Office of Government and Community Affairs, marking the first time that the OGCA and a Penn school have developed a voter registration project of this scale.
