One week after Penn men’s fencing pulled a surprise upset over No. 1 Penn State, the team returned to action on Saturday at the Eric Sollee Invitational.

The men’s squash team beat Brown, 7-2, Saturday, and fell to Yale, 8-1. In the meantime, the women’s squad beat both Brown and Stanford Saturday, 7-2 and 6-3, respectively, and lost to Yale, 5-4, Sunday.

Over three rounds, totaling thirty minutes, Kobayashi devoured 337 wings, shattering Jonathan “Super” Squibb’s record of 255 set only the year before.

In the penultimate home weekend of the season, the Penn women’s basketball team dropped a 72-60 decision to Yale on Friday and fell, 59-55, to Brown in overtime Saturday.

Followers of the Penn basketball team have emphasized the need for other players to step up and have big games, and thus far, those performances have been few and far between.

The Quakers rallied after their first Ivy loss to Yale on Friday and, with some help from senior guard Rob Belcore, emerged victorious over Brown on Saturday, 65-48.

The Quakers opened the game with impressive ball movement from inside-out, which allowed them to overcome the early deficit. Yale and Penn traded leads throughout the first period — the margin was never greater than four points — and they went into the locker room tied at 29.

Despite finding itself in the midst of a four-game losing streak going into this weekend’s matches against Brown and Yale, the Penn men’s squash team still sees signs of progress to hang its hat on.

Although the men’s basketball team will be facing not one, but two Ivy League opponents this weekend, the Quakers are trying not to get too far ahead of themselves.

As opposed to the Penn State Invitational, where the Quakers squared off against three top-10 teams, none of the five teams they will be facing at the Eric Sollee Invitational — Brandeis, MIT, NYU, Boston College or Brown — are currently ranked.
