National sorority chapters have prohibited sisters at the University of Virginia from attending fraternity events this weekend, the same weekend of bid night for fraternities.  The action led strong responses from several students, especially sorority sisters, who felt the actions were sexist and "degrading to Greek women." One petition begun on Monday said "Instead of addressing rape and sexual assault at UVa, this mandate perpetuates the idea that women are inferior, sexual objects." A letter aimed at the National Panhellenic Conference stated the Conference's actions are "subjugating women" and that preventing sisters from "excercising [their] agency plays dangerously into gender stereotypes surrounding the issue [of sexual violence]."
