Penn’s mental health task force is in the process of synthesizing information and developing recommendations aimed at improving mental health resources on campus, after conducting research and interviews last semester and over the summer.

Penn Medicine is currently in the planning stages of development on a new hospital tower, which could cost $1.5 billion, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Marilyn Taylor, who began her term as PennDesign dean in 2008, will now serve until 2016. During her time at Penn, she has increased the school's visibility and influence.

Beginning her interim term on June 16, Alcohol and Other Drug Program Initiative Director Julie Lyzinski Nettleton will serve until Michele Goldfarb’s permanent replacement is appointed. She will continue to lead the AOD — where she has worked since 2005 — while serving as interim director.

Allocating $197 million toward undergraduate financial aid, the recently enacted budget — which took effect July 1 and will terminate with the fiscal year on June 30, 2015 — saw a 4.5 percent increase in undergraduate financial aid.

Board Chair David L. Cohen recognized the detrimental health effects of tobacco, but said that it does not constitute a “moral evil.” According to Penn’s divestment policy, areas being considered for divestment must qualify as “a moral evil implicating a core University value that is creating a substantial social injury.” Cohen also stressed that the Trustees are obligated to the growth and protection of the University’s endowment.

On Monday at the White House Summit on Working Families, former University President and current President of the Rockefeller Foundation Judith Rodin shed light on the payment gap between male and female faculty members after she was asked if women always know and communicate their value.“When I was offered the Presidency of Penn...I think the board believed that I would and should feel extremely grateful,” Rodin said. “They offered me a salary and I went home overnight and started to get really angry.”

Gutmann created a consultative committee to advise her on the reappointment of Provost Price. The Trustees voted to reappoint him to a second term at their Friday meeting.

As colleges around the nation have come under scrutiny for alleged failings in handling sexual violence on campus, Penn has updated both its sexual violence policy and sexual violence education to make sure it is fully in compliance with federal law.

The replacement of tenure-track faculty positions with adjunct, or contingent, faculty positions at universities has gained significant public attention in the past year. Now, two organizations are targeting the perceived inequity that contingent faculty are facing.

Dean of the Annenberg School of Communication  Michael Delli Carpini, who was appointed dean in 2003, has agreed to extend his deanship until June 30, 2018.
