Matt Meltzer: To get Penn up to par, think inside the bubble
Here's a revelation: It gets cold in Philadelphia over the winter. No, not Hanover, N.H. cold or Ithaca, N.Y. cold, but it can be pretty nippy out there. So when the weather heads south of the freezing point, athletic practices move indoors. This is where Penn's athletes get the short end, since the school lacks appropriate indoor facilities.
Baseball: Victory by committee
Jarron Smith just needed a little tweak. The junior starts about every other game, but with a three-for-four day in Penn's 11-5 win over Saint Joseph's in the opening round of the Liberty Bell Classic, he has made his case for a full-time spot out in right field.

Going back to the fundamentals of a campaign
According to one prominent Harvard University professor, ethics are sorely needed in political campaigns often fraught with misinformation and manipulation. Dennis Thompson, the Alfred North Whitehead professor of political philosophy at Harvard, spoke about campaign ethics in his keynote address at the Philosophy, Politics and Economics department's seventh-annual Goldstone Forum before several dozen students and professors yesterday afternoon in the Hall of Flags in Houston Hall.
Violations postpone student gov't results

Groups speak out on police 'bias'
Student minority groups are speaking out against the Division of Public Safety in response to an incident last week in which a black College student was detained, calling it part of a larger trend of bias-based profiling.
Baseball: A welcome change: Relievers actually bringing relief
In four straight games before yesterday, Penn's relievers had conceded nine runs in 10 and two-thirds innings. W. Lax: Quakers' party crashers could lurk in Baltimore
Now the hard part begins. After cruising through its first seven games with only a single hitch - a road loss to Northwestern - the Penn women's lacrosse team will begin the most difficult part of its schedule tonight when it travels to Baltimore to face dangerous No.
Adam Goodman | Minding the gap
As ready as high-school seniors may feel for college, taking a year off can ease the transition and help narrow interests.
Postal Service reviews land sale
A report from the Office of the Inspector General of the U.S. Postal Service reveals that the Postal Service did not act in compliance with several regulations in selling the Postal Lands to the University, but Penn and Postal Service officials say the report will not affect the deal's closing.
Honorary degrees honor values
Aretha Franklin is well-known for wanting some respect. And this year, she's going to get it. The University has amassed a diverse group of honorary degrees recipients for May's Commencement, including Franklin. These recipients, who are not necessarily affiliated with Penn, tend to have made long strides in their respective fields.
