PITTSBURGH - Before a sparse crowd in a half-empty ballroom, Lynn Swann conceded the Pennsylvania governor's race to incumbent Ed Rendell last night. Swann took the stage at about 11:20 p.m. after being introduced by his running mate, Jim Matthews. He spoke to his crowd of supporters, admitting that "we lost the battle," and that he is "not accustomed to losing.

What's bad publicity for Penn could turn out to be blogger Winfield Myers' big break. On Thursday evening, Myers posted a photograph of Penn President Amy Gutmann posing with Engineering senior Saad Saadi - who dressed as a suicide bomber for Halloween - and criticized Gutmann over it.

Four thousand, seven hundred and sixty-four minutes of Dan Cepero's life were spent in a very familiar place. For more than 79 hours in the last four years, he was in goal for the Penn soccer team, putting his name all over the record books. But yesterday, he was in a very unfamiliar place - the men's basketball lounge of the Palestra, watching as team after team filled the rapidly dwindling number of spots in the NCAA Tournament bracket.

The Associated Press has declared incumbent Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell the victor in his race for a second term. His opponent was Republican Lynn Swann, a political novice and pro football Hall of Famer. Rendell had been heavily favored in recent polls. The AP called the race based on "a statistical analysis of the vote from voter interviews conducted for The Associated Press by Edison Media Research and Mitofsky International.

Today's the day he worked for. After months of putting up posters, stumping door to door and passing out registration cards, Election Day is finally here. Disorderly Conduct Oct. 28 - Jason Ho - 22 and a 2006 Penn grad - was arrested for disorderly conduct at 40th and Pine Streets at about 11:50 p.m. Police say he was involved in a physical altercation with an unknown man on the street. Oct. 31 - Daniel Styles - who is 38 years old and unaffiliated with the University - was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after he allegedly acted in a threatening manner near a food truck on 34th Street at about 5:45 p.

The perennial debate between Trojans and Lifestyles came home to Penn last weekend. The Undergraduate Assembly pledged on Sunday to create a survey to "gauge current student sentiment regarding condoms and to determine the condom of choice" on campus. The University gives out free condoms - the Lifestyles brand - at multiple places around campus, from the high rise dorms to Student Health Services.

It took 99 years, but the rivalry between Harvard, Yale and Princeton came out of the classroom and onto the football field. The H-Y-P trifecta, mainstays at the top of the U.S. News & World Report's academic rankings, were all 7-1 at weekend's end, marking the first time this has happened in almost a century.

PRINCETON, N.J. - When the dust had settled at Princeton Stadium on Saturday, the Quakers had earned themselves yet another overtime loss. Understandably, nobody on the Penn side was lining up afterwards to discuss the positives of the game - after a loss like that, there certainly wouldn't seem to be any.

Quakers will not be part of 48-team field despite a strong Ancient Eight campaign.

Richard Clarke called on students last night to enter government to fight corruption. Addressing a crowd of 700 to 800 students and community members in the Annenberg Center's Zellerbach Theatre, Clarke, a former counterterrorism czar and 1972 Penn alumnus, spoke about ethical issues currently affecting the U.

If poll numbers are correct, 32 percent of voters ages 18 to 24 will cast a ballot.
