Delayed opening for Chilango

West Philadelphia is on its way to becoming a battleground for area residents' palettes - but not without a few delays. Chilango, a high-end Jose Garces restaurant that will be located in the Hub at 40th and Chestnut Streets, has delayed its planned spring opening until June.

Penn's getting more global by the day. That's because over the past few years, administrators have especially tried to emphasize the University's role as an international institution. This push has led to many admirable programs, like Penn's efforts in Botswana, which apply research on campus to support developing communities around the world.

As Penn faces the possibility of becoming the first Ivy League university to require self-disclosure statements from prospective faculty members about their criminal backgrounds, it remains unseen what, if any, impact the issue will have on faculty recruitment.

The Latest

Teams scouting the Owls tend to focus their energies on stopping much-acclaimed junior Dionte Christmas. But while Christmas leads the Atlantic 10 in scoring, senior Mark Tyndale might be Temple's most important player. Second on the team to Christmas in points and rebounds per game with 15.

Every week, my roommates and I start out with the best of intentions. We place our bottles and cans neatly in our bin marked "recycling," ready to make the world a little greener come next trash day. Then, the bin starts to overflow. By the end of the weekend, our kitchen is filthy and somebody takes out some of the bottles with the trash.

A six-figure salary and an apartment in Manhattan are hard to part with, especially when you're 23. Yet that's just what 2002 Wharton and College alum Doug Tansey did and he hasn't looked back. During his high school years in Sacramento, the lucrative, fast-paced lifestyle of his aunt and uncle, both of whom were investment bankers, intrigued Tansey.

With a falling economy, voter interest rises

The presidential primaries and the United States' economic downturn are making headlines together, and for voters, the two are becoming increasingly related. The economy has become one of the most important issues in the campaign for voters and candidates in both parties.

First green roof at University nearing completion

After more than five months of clamorous work, the eco-roof atop English House in Kings Court/English House has been completed. Well, almost. According to Business Services, Penn's first 'green' roof was finally completed during the winter recess. Yet, there's still time before students can walk through patio gardens and bask in eco-friendliness.

M. Tennis | First place is not enough this year

This year, the men's tennis team knows better than anyone that sharing is meant for the playground - not the Ivy title race. After two consecutive seasons of settling for joint Ivy League championships, the Quakers seek to shake off their defending co-champion Columbia and win the league outright for the first time in 37 years.

Used books: a student friend, a publisher foe

Two years ago, College senior Heather Gorn and Engineering junior Scott Becker started BetterThanTheBookStore.com, an online forum for students to buy and sell textbooks that quickly became a campus institution. Today the site has about 2,600 users and more than 7,000 books for sale.

Eric Furda, Penn's recently appointed dean of admissions, was well known at Columbia for his open, receptive personality and his ability to work in a large team, college-admissions counselors and former coworkers say. Furda's work in Colmbia's undergraduate admissions office - which he led from 1995 to 2004 - focused on increasing the breadth and depth of the university's applicant pool.

New hotels are being planned citywide, a trend experts say is likely to weather recent financial difficulties in the real estate markets. Spurred by the planned expansion of the downtown Convention Center, developers have unveiled plans for several new hotels both in Center City and nearer to Penn's campus.

Club Wizzards, now Club Atlantis, open under new management

Club Wizzards, the site of a deadly shooting this past fall, recently reopened under new management as Club Atlantis. In late November, police engaged in a gun battle at Club Wizzards, located at 3801 Chestnut St. After allegedly shooting the disc jockey twice, Larry Sanders, 31, of the 500 block of N.

When Justin Fox was younger, his father - an excellent tennis player - took him onto the court and taught him how to play. The Long Island, N.Y. native has not put down his racquet since, becoming the No. 2 singles player in the country at the ripe age of 16 and winning the National Open at Texas.

For some Penn students, "home" is now a very different place than it once was. Pakistani students who returned to their native country for winter break arrived shortly before former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated while leaving a rally for the Pakistan People's Party on Dec.

He's the man who invented Bui's famous "hangover special" - the breakfast combo that brings long lines of Penn students to the food truck on the corner of 38th and Spruce Streets those particularly painful Sunday mornings. "One day I was sitting at home thinking, 'What can I do to satisfy [Penn students]?'" explained the proud combo-creator, who asked to be identified as Bui, Jr.

Threes just look too good to pass up on

Like a fisherman dangling a juicy worm, the Saint Joseph's defense allowed Penn to get off anything it wanted from outside the arc. And the Quakers took the bait. On Saturday night, Penn scored 42 points against St. Joe's, and three-point shooting is a good candidate on which to place blame.

Quakers make for easy prey

The best the Quakers could hope for was probably a moral victory. Even that was well out of reach. Saint Joseph's dominating 82-42 victory over Penn on Saturday raises the prospect of a winless Big 5 season, which would be Penn's first since 2000-01. The Quakers visit Temple on Wednesday for their final non-conference game.
