Last year, on the plot of land on the 3900 block of Walnut Street stood an odd-looking complex. Asymmetric gaping holes spotted the metallic exterior. When students came back to campus last August, they found that the skeletal structure had materialized into the Radian.

E-mail inboxes, listservs and Facebook walls filled to the brim as this year's student government elections opened early Monday morning at 12:01 a.m. As of Tuesday afternoon, two days into the week-long election window, voter turnout stood at 34.16 percent - just 10 percent shy of the total number of students who voted last year.

Voter turnout likely to top past years in student government elections

Domenique Wilson, the suspect in the home invasion and sexual assault at 44th and Spruce streets last December, waived his right to a preliminary hearing on a number of criminal counts that include an attack on three students at Lock Haven University. Wilson is scheduled for arraignment on April 27, according to the Clinton County District Attorney's Office, and will enter a plea at that time.

The Blue Jays know how to put up a fight. So as the No. 2 Penn women's lacrosse team enters its ninth game of the season against unranked Johns Hopkins, they expect to hear the foul whistle a lot. "They're very physical so we're going to have to be able to handle that," coach Karin Brower said.

Students on campus may have noticed the river of Greek-lettered hats meandering between classes. Under the hats are fraternity brothers and sorority sisters celebrating Day One of the five-day fiesta known as Greek Weekend. The Weekend, now in its 11th year at Penn, marks an extended celebration of Greek unity and community service and features six events over the course of the weekend.

Black emergency-room patients are likely to wait about an hour longer than other patients to be transferred to a regular hospital bed, according to a recent study by researchers in the School of Medicine. The study, which drew from data from the National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey - a nationwide sample of emergency-room visits across the country - also found that critically ill black patients waited approximately an hour longer than other patients to be transferred out of intensive-care units.
