An increase in applications for the MBA program

The Wharton School's MBA program saw a 1.2 percent increase in applications this cycle, The Wall Street Journal reported this week.

There were 6,111 applicants to the current first-year MBA class, compared to the 6,036 applicants for the class that started in the fall of 2013. The Journal called the numbers a "bright spot of admissions news after some years of declines."

Despite decreased application numbers in the wake of the financial crisis, average GMAT scores for enrolled MBAs have continued to rise. This fall's class averaged 728 on a scale of 200 to 800, which represents an increase from the 725 average last year and the 718 the year before.
