Participating in its fourth NCAA Tournament ever, the volleyball team earned the program's first win in the NCAAs Friday, winning 3-1 over Army in University Park, Pa. They'll face Penn State Saturday night in the second round. The Nittany Lions beat Binghamton, 3-0, and have won 97 straight matches.

The Quakers lost the first set, 25-18, but then cruised in the next three, decreasing the number of points they allowed from 20, to 18 and then to 16.

There were no surprises as to who led Penn. Ivy League Player of the Year Elizabeth Semmens hit .308 and had 22 kills and 14 digs, while junior Madison Wojciechowski was one of four players with double-digit digs, totaling a match-high 28.

"We're just super excited to be part of the first team in University of Pennsylvania history to go past the first round," Penn coach Kerry Carr told Penn Athletics. "It's just a huge step for our program and we've worked so hard to get here and then not only to get here, but to go beyond the first step."
