Sports Update | W. Soccer gets one back, beats East Carolina, 3-1

Coming off a tough 3-2 loss at the hands of rival Villanova Friday after leading 2-0, the women's soccer team was angry going into Sunday's game against East Carolina.

Instead of letting their emotions get the better of them, the Quakers used their intensity to dominate the Pirates from the opening whistle.

After scoring twice in the game's first 10 minutes, the Quakers never looked back and held on for a 3-1 win at Rhodes Field in the second game of the Penn Invitational.

Senior Molly Weir led the Quakers (2-2) with a goal and two assists, including a cross to freshman Ursula Palm-Lopez who then turned, shot and scored the first goal on the afternoon just three minutes into the game.

Weir then assisted on Kristin Kaiser's goal four and a half minutes later. Although East Carolina (4-2) did get one back when Jessica Woodward scored a beautiful header off of a free kick, Weir's goal in the 22nd minute pushed the Penn lead back to two. No goals were scored in the second half.

"It felt good to contribute, especially after Friday's loss," Weir said. "This season I'm trying to be a leader since it's my senior year."
