Two robberies were reported near campus over the weekend.
A 52-year-old woman was threatened at gunpoint on the 4000 block of Pine Street at about 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, according to Capt. Benjamin Naish of the Philadelphia police.
The man approached the woman from the rear, displayed a black gun and demanded money, Naish said.
The man then fled west on Pine Street. He is described as a 35-to-40-year-old black male, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and of medium build.
Jared Hupp, a spokesman for Penn's Division of Public Safety, said the incident is still under investigation and no one affiliated with the University was involved.
In an unrelated incident, a robbery occurred on Friday on the 200 block of S. 40th Street.
A male complainant unaffiliated with the University reported that an unknown man hit him from behind and took a small amount of money at about 7:05 p.m., Penn and Philadelphia police said.
No weapon was used. The suspect then fled in an unknown direction, Hupp said.
No arrests have been made in either case, and no injuries were reported.
