The date for a preliminary hearing for Troy Brown, the man charged with a string of robberies with a screwdriver, has been reset for May 4 after he was assigned a new court-appointed lawyer last week.
Cathie Abookire, a spokeswoman for the district attorney's office, said the preliminary hearing that had been scheduled for March 5 had been changed to a status listing, in which Brown was appointed a new attorney, Alston Meade.
Brown, 36, of Northeast Philadelphia, had filed a motion to obtain different representation after his previous court-appointed attorney, Larry Charles, was arrested on charges of statutory sexual assault.
Charles, who has been released on bail and continues to practice law, was found naked with his 14-year-old goddaughter in the Philadelphia Criminal Justice Center on Jan. 15.
Meade could not be reached for comment.
Brown has been charged with a total of 10 counts of robbery in connection to a string of muggings between Nov. 9 and Nov. 21. Eight of the robberies occurred in the University City district and two of the victims affiliated with Penn.
