Begley signs with German team

Joins fellow alum Archibong in Bamberg

Recent Penn grad Tim Begley has signed a contract to play for GHP Bamberg, a basketball team that plays in the German Basketball Bundesliga.

The reigning Ivy League Player of the Year joins former teammate Koko Archibong in Bamberg. Archibong recorded 7.9 points and 5 rebounds per game last season, helping lead GHP Bamberg to the Bundesliga title.

Begley saw limited interest from the NBA, working our with the Philadelphia 76ers in late June.

However, he was neither drafted nor signed by an NBA summer league squad. Begley has noted n several occasions that he would prefer to play for a European team than try to make an NBA roster, as he enjoys the European style of play.

Other U.S. players on GHP Bamberg are Chris Ensminger, a Valparaiso graduate, and Demond Mallett, a McNeese State alumnus.

Begley will face off against Penn alum Michael Jordan in the upcoming season. Jordan is a member of the Bundesliga's Artland Dragons, who will visit Bamberg on Dec. 18.

Bamberg is scheduled to kick off its season Oct. 13.
