The Daily Pennsylvanian

EDITORIAL: Jeers

To the Undergraduate Assembly, for its sensationalist overreaction -- exemplified by the distribution of "Am I a Target?" bullseye stickers on Locust Walk -- in the wake of the Steinberg-Dietrich assault. To the Philadelphia court system, for handing down light sentences to all three of Vladimir Sled's convicted killers -- Bridgette Black, Yvette Stewart and Eugene Harrison. To the University, for further limiting the playing space available to club and intramural athletic teams by planning to construct a new baseball stadium with a seating capacity that far exceeds the average attendance at games. To the University, for its continued failure to fill senior faculty spots in the understaffed Political Science department, despite repeated promises to do so. To the Wharton School, for restricting access to its 24-hour computer labs to Wharton students only. The decision is isolationist, and makes a mockery of the University's stated goals of fostering interaction and the sharing of resources between schools. To the University, for failing to carry through on all the promises made with regard to the fresh air food plazas. In particular, for failing to construct outdoor seating and to provide lighting at four of the food plazas. To date, such construction has occurred only at the plaza located next to Franklin Field. To Eat at Joe's, for failing to stay open 24 hours a day, and to the University, for not insisting that the restaurant do so despite overwhelming student demand for a 24-hour diner.
