Penn and Philly fans alike should embrace the pro team that'll play in the Palestra. When the Philadelphia Rage women's basketball team's season tips off in October at the Palestra, fans will have two hometown heroes to cheer in city native Dawn Staley (whose portrait towers over 8th and Market streets) and St. Joseph's graduate Amy Mallon. The American Basketball League, which is reputed to have better players and better action than the rival, mega-marketed Women's National Basketball Association, may not pack them in -- attendance averaged in the mid-3,000s -- but those who show up will see the best women's game out there. And after watching the Penn men's and women's teams bumble through last season, what could be better than getting a new team that nearly won its league championship last year?
