CAMPUS BRIEFS: Tuesday, December 3, 1997

Hoops tix available on Locust Walk; Dunphy in Commons? But the Athletic Department wants students to catch men's basketball fever -- and it has set up a temporary ticket office on Locust Walk in order to increase sales and student interest while the season begins. The Quakers play their home opener tonight against Towson State at the Palestra at 8 p.m. Ticket Manager Peggy Kowalski would not give exact numbers, but she said fewer season tickets have been sold so far this year than at the same point last year. She noted, however, that the department did not initiate the extra sales push in response to the lower sales. The ticket office also moved out to Locust Walk as recently as two years ago -- when sales were higher. Marketing and Special Events Coordinator Katrina Dowidchuk said coach Fran Dunphy might work the dining halls today in order to talk to students about the season's prospects. "We're trying to get the word out that they're good this year," Dowidchuk said. The Locust Walk promotion will run through Friday. -- Scott Lanman
