Shutting down the houses

Risk Management's demands of the IFC are unreasonable and should be reevaluated. Not everyone enjoys these parties. But for many students, especially freshmen, they are a significant social outlet and an expected, eagerly anticipated part of college life. Frat parties are a place to hang out, dance to live bands and let off steam from a hard week of studying. And the drinking that inevitably occurs at these parties can -- and does -- occur just as easily behind the closed doors of dorm rooms. Chapters that host parties need to cover their costs. And they should not have to worry they'll be placed on probation -- one ominous step toward having their charters revoked, and removing the Greek system from campus altogether -- for merely cranking up the stereo and inviting a few friends over.
